Q – How can you practice detachment with people?
A – Just know that you do not own anybody. When you came into this world, you came alone and when you go, you go alone. You can’t take them with you. If you understand this it will help you to understand detachment. From your experience in life you know that when you try to possess somebody it only results in pain and suffering. You can enjoy someone’s company, friendship or love, but if it is based on selfishness there will be problems. Such attachment not only enslaves you but enslaves the other person too. If the love is pure there will not be attachment. So reflect on these things and strive to cultivate that kind of divine unselfish love.
